Butler County is full of great places to visit and fun things to do!  As Butler County's official Historical Society, the Butler County Historical Society hopes that all the small societies who are representative of boroughs or one specific piece of our County's history, will submit their information to this part of our website.  We'd like all the thousands of people who visit our area and website every year to see everything that our County has to offer!!!

John Roebling's Historic Saxonburg Society, Inc.

"John A. Roebling, inventor of wire rope and designer of the Brooklyn Bridge, began business in Saxonburg, founded by him in 1832. His son, Washington A. Roebling, who build the Brooklyn Bridge, was born here in 1837."

"Saxonburg began as a vision for a wholesome town offering a new life for German settlers in America in 1832. Designed by engineer and surveyor, John Augustus Roebling, Saxonburg's Main Street featured the charm and distinctive architecture of a quaint German hamlet.

Today, Main Street retains much of its original character and features 32 buildings that are over 100 years old, of which 10 buildings are more than 150 years old. Recently, a portion of Saxonburg's Main Street from Rebecca to Butler streets was named to the National Registry of Historic Places. As you stroll down Main Street, plaques help tell the historic significance of Saxonburg.

Whether you visit during a parade or festival when the streets are brimming with activity, or take in the simpler life while sitting on a bench beneath the shade trees on a summer evening, you will always be welcome."
