NEWS OF THE DAY
The information indexed here was obtained from a set of 16 CD’s which are arranged in chronological order. More than 2000 editions of newspapers from over 40 titles published in Butler County, spanning the years 1806 to 1901, were scanned and transferred to these CD’s. This is not a complete grouping of all the newspapers available during that time period, but is the first public indexing of this particular set of newspapers. These CD's are not searchable by name or subject, but you can choose the particular newspaper you want to view. These CD's are NOT compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7.
The CD’s are available for purchase from the Butler County Historical Society either individually or as a set. Single CD’s are $6.00 plus shipping or purchase the whole set of 16 CD’s for $75.00 plus shipping. PA residents must include 6% sales tax.
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 and wish to have a copy of an article from these newspapers please send in your order form and we will copy the article for you. $5.00 for one article or 5 articles for $10.00 includes the postage.
This index has been compiled by volunteers who have done their best to capture the names of Butler County’s citizens. This index is not complete and will be continuously updated through the coming months.
The column marked MP stands for Multiple Papers. This means that the person or business shows up in more than one newspaper with the same or very similar information, such as a business ad.
