The mission of the Butler County Historical Society is the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Butler County's historical records and artifacts for the educational benefit of the public.

The Butler County Historical Society was founded in 1927, when a group of residents met to discuss ways to preserve local history.  In 1960, the Society was incorporated as a private non-profit entity.  In 1991, it was designated the official historical organization of Butler County.  At its office, the Society maintains a resource library of historical records and documents relating to the county that can be used by the public for research.  The Society also owns and operates three historic sites:  Cooper Cabin Pioneer Homestead, the Little Red School House, and the Lowrie/Shaw House.

If you have items of historic value to Butler County that you would like to see preserved, please call and talk to our Director, Pat Collins.
